* SATURDAY FEBRUARY 24TH 2024 - EL CONQUISTADOR

I'm excited to premiere my new opera, El Conquistador, in San Antonio with an amazing cast featuring tenor Thomas Soto (Cortés), Celeste Morales (Malinche), Kimberly Sandoval (Catalina Marcayda), Jeremiah Drake (Moctezuma) and more! This will be my 16th opera I've written and produced but only my 3rd opera that clocks in over 60 minutes. This production will be a mixed of staged and immersive. Rehearsals start this weekend. Time to direct!

16 Pianos in Surround Sound

Ok, so I've done concerts for 2 pianos and 6 pianos but freaking 16?!!!  Needless to say I'm thrilled about this opportunity. I just finished composing the 40-minute 3-movement work and delivered it to the Drake Piano Program. I think it might be one of my strongest works to date. If you are in the Des Moines area you don't want to miss it!  Both concerts are free and open to the public.

Happy New Year! I've been in my lab all winter composing for my next opera, El Conquistador, that will premiere on March 2nd at the Carver Theatre in San Antonio Texas. The opera will feature Thomas Soto (tenor) as Hernán Cortés, Celeste Morales (soprano) as La Malinche, Lee Farrar Bailey (baritone) as Moctezuma, Kim Sandoval (mezzo) as Catalina Suarez Marcayda and Emily Anderson (mezzo) as Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar. I'm doing a reunion tour with my old band that I wrote for and sang in for 10 years, The Noise Revival Orchestra, in Hong Kong later this month. It'll be a good break for me after composing for and directing five operas this fall. The band is what initially launched me into classical music which then sparked an interest in opera!
